Get To Know Your Professor
  • Jessica has been teaching since 2006 and is the author of four published books.

  • Jessica was born in Oak Park, IL to an Italian mother and a Hawaiian Father, and she is a die-hard Cubs fan. (Sorry, Brewers fans!đŸ˜¬)

  • Jessica is a Teaching & Learning Fellow and enjoys educational technologies. Some of her favorites are Padlet, Loom. Mote, and Toggl.

  • Credentials: As a life-long student (so, I really get the balancing act between work and school and life) Jessica earned a BA in English (with an emphasis in writing) & Philosophy from UW-Whitewater. She also holds an MFA in Creative Writing, an MA in Professional Development, a Graduate Certificate in Executive Communication Skills, a Certificate in Women’s Studies, and a certificate in Online Teaching. So, she really enjoys school!

  • Jessica's current favorite type of book to read is horror. Though, she also reads LitRPGs, fantasy, thrillers, mystery, and humorist memoirs. In 2022 she read 108 books. So far in 2023, she's read 41.

  • Jessica enjoys karaoke, sushi, and video games. She is currently playing Villagers & Heroes, an online MMO. If you play, you can find her in US2 in the Lark Rise guild.

  • Jessica is editor of The Redhawk Review and Aberration Labyrinth Magazine. If you are interested in learning more, let her know! She wants to see your creative writing and poetic efforts! If you publish in The Redhawk Review, you can win a $100 tuition voucher.

  • Jessica loves animals. She has two dogs (Hermione & Scout), two cats (Keanu & Tink), and a lizard (Morris) which is her max capacity. So, she cannot go to the animal shelter anymore.
Most importantly, Jessica is here to help you. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out.

“I cannot help you if I do not know you need help. I cannot help you if I do not know what you need help with. I want to help you. I want to see you succeed. That is my job. So, please let me know if you need help.” -Professor Gleason

    1. I want to say, "Nice To Meet You Too", but you didn't leave a name. :) I'm sure it was nice to meet you, anyway. Have a good day!

  2. Jessica, Great to know you through this online platform! You sound like me - a collector of credentials due to the love of learning and knowledge gathering. I am on my second master's degree, a MSW with a concentration in Forensics. - Jomarie

  3. Hello! Nice to meet you, Professor! Would I be pushing boundaries if I said I wanted to talk about video games with you?

  4. Good morning Prof!
Just about everything in you bio shares a little part of my interests except for the lizard. I am sure they are a nice lizard however lizards seem like they do not enjoy my company! Video games are almost my forte but I did not know anything about Dragon Quest and when I am done here I will look it up!

I do not excel in speaking and communicating and I think this could be a great opportunity for me to build a great foundation! Thank you -Adam Nelson

    1. What kind of games do you like? I'm bit on RPGs and horror games myself. Though, I have fallen into the Animal Crossing trap too. :) I hope you enjoy class.

  5. Hi Jessica,

Thank you so much for sharing about yourself here, and including pictures of your fur babies! I have two kitties as well, and they are "the best", of course. :)

I feel pretty honored to have an instructor that is the author of three published books, as well as such a decorated educational background! I love reading, so I will definitely be looking into your books! I am currently working on the Harry Potter series (on book four) as well as "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed.

There is a part of me that would also love to write a book at some point in my lifetime. For now, I will settle for school assignments. :)

    Warmly,
    Andrea

  6. It sounds like you would be my daughter's bestie. You have more accomplishments under belt (A published Author!! Way Cool), but you sound just like her. I already like you, lol.

But on a professional note; the class sounds like I will learn a lot. I am new to being an Adjunct Instructor and I am yearning for more ways to make sure my students are successful. I was so excited to see the title of this course. When I saw it, I was thinking..."That's exactly what I was hoping for." I look forward to the class, any comments, criticisms, advice, etc.

  7. Hello Prof Gleason,
I am looking forward to the class! I am in my first full semester as an instructor at IMET-Adv Manufacturing Tech. I teach REAL school and adults. It is a challenge, especially with the HS, but I feel I am improving everyday. I am from Chicago, and you being a Cubs fan might appreciate this? In HS I worked at a bar called Bernies, across from Wrigley as a bar back!
Got to Meet Ron Santo and a bunch of the original Bleacher Bums! See ya soon...

I'm looking forward to this class and expanding the way I communicate with others. Looking forward to this semester with you!

Yes. I did go to Badger. So, it's entirely possible we went to school together. When were you there?

I graduated in 2007. I think that I may have known your sister as she was closer to my age. Small world!

  9. Hello Professor Gleason,
I love that you play video games, but have you heard of the game smite before?

Nickname Claire would honestly prefer to be called by my nickname than my full name if you are allowed to do that as a professor of course
